RIOT 87 is electronic, rave, rock & drum'n'bass duo, formed by Darko Andric (composer, producer, DJ, remixer) and Igor Despotovic (guitarist, composer), both from Kragujevac, Serbia.
Their music can be described as mixture of a lot of genres, but when you ask them to define their genre they say: "Fuck genres, we make everything!" RIOT 87 music can briefly be described as real fusion of everything: rave, rock, breakbeat, full-on, hard dance, techno, hard electro, drum'n'bass and even hip hop - from 130 bpm hard electro-rock tunes over 145 bpm full-on smashers to 180 bmp drum'n'bass Riot, as Darko like to say - "We never stop". Mixing Darko's electronic side with Igor's punk/rock background RIOT 87 music can be determined as hard dancefloor rock music, full of surprises, with twisted crossovers and breaks, heavy synths and guitar riffs, all perfectly packed in new genre - RIOT.
In July 2009 the band released on all their social sites "RIOT 87 Remix Album", 2 CD release with 9 remixes and 5 original tracks from RIOT 87, plus 2 videos of their live performance in "VIP Club" in Kragujevac. Searched over 80.000 times on Google, the album spread very fast all over the web. "We were surprised when we saw our album on Torrent portals", says Darko. Few days after album was lauched on RIOT 87 Myspace and Reverbnation pages it was possible to find it on hundreds of blogs, sites and forums. "It was really cool, since we wanted that album reach to as much people as possible, that we started to get hundreds of friend requests, mails, and comments from people from all over the world", says Darko. In short time the band got thousands of new fans from all over the world - Mexico, USA, Brazil, Russia, UK, South America. So far the album has been downloaded around 30.000 times from official links only.
In September 2009 RIOT 87 released their debut EP "Are You Riot!" for psytrance record label from Hollywood - "On The Move Music". EP consist of 5 RIOT 87 original tracks and one remix for USA industrial/rock superstar Celldweller. The EP also passed very good in audience. "Now we started to receive DJ mixes and mixtapes with our tracks, and what we were happy about is that our music was mixed with every style possible", says Darko. Well known for their unreleased remixes, now the band started to get mails from other producers who want to remix RIOT 87 tracks. That's the reason the band decided in next months to prepare remix steams for all tracks from EP and to offer it to every producer who is interested to make remix of RIOT 87 track.
Somewhere in that period of EP and Remix Album promotion RIOT 87 was approached by "FiXT Music" general manager James Rhodes to work on some projects for FiXT Music, Detroit based record label owned by Celldweller. "After few mails exchanged, we decided to work on FiXT VS RIOT 87 ALBUM - album with RIOT 87 remixes for all FiXT artists: Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Squarehead, Subculture and others. It was really a pleasure and privilege to work on remixes for these artists, and to work for FiXT Music also", says Darko and continue: "We really like all FiXT Music artists, we listen their music every day, and with work on tracks for them we set some new standars and get a lot new ideas".
Over 10.000 comments, mails and messages of support and congratulations from fans, DJ, musicians and radio stations, with 1 place on Electronica/Dance world charts on Reverbnation, 1 place on Myspace national music charts, with demands for RIOT 87 Live show in more then 300 places on Eventful service, with attention from promoters from USA, Russia, Brazil and Mexico - it is easy to say that RIOT 87 is the future of electronic music scene.
"In 2010 we plan to work a lot more on promotion, to finish album for FiXT Music, to add a drummer to our live performance and hopefully to start with tours and in late 2010 to start with work on our debut album with all RIOT 87 original tracks", says Darko and finish quoting EP title: "Are You Riot? If you are not then don't listen our music."
